Welcome
Dear St James Community,
With only 13 days remaining in the 2024 school year, we find ourselves in a whirlwind of activities and emotions. As the finish line approaches, it’s important to remember to look after one another—students, staff, and families alike. This is a time to reflect on the growth and achievements of the year while supporting each other through the busyness of these final weeks.
Here’s a snapshot of what’s ahead:
- December 2nd – 6th: K-6 Swimming program begins, providing students an opportunity to develop water safety and swimming skills.
- December 3rd: Kinder 2025 Transition 4 and the exciting Whole School Step-Up Day, where students spend time in their new classes for next year.
- December 5th: A significant milestone—our Year 6 Graduation. This is a chance to celebrate their primary school journey before they move on to high school.
- December 9th – 14th: Another week of K-6 Swimming, helping students consolidate their aquatic skills.
- December 10th: The much-anticipated Swimming Carnival, where students can showcase their abilities and enjoy friendly competition.
- December 11th: Semester 2 Reports will be published, a valuable reflection on academic growth and achievements.
- December 12th: The festive spirit comes alive with our Christmas Carols evening, a joyful celebration of community and the season.
- December 16th: A big day with two highlights—Year 6 Celebration Day 1 and the Kindergarten Graduation, where we honor our youngest students' first year of school.
- December 17th: A day of reflection and joy with the End of Year Liturgy and the Year 6 Dinner Dance, an opportunity to come together in faith and celebration.
- December 18th: Our final day of term features the Final Assembly, Year 6 Celebration Day 2, and the Guard of Honour—a cherished tradition to farewell our graduating Year 6 students.
- December 19th & 20th: These Pupil Free Days mark the conclusion of the year.
As we approach the season of Advent in the Catholic Church, we are reminded of the themes of hope, peace, joy, and love. Advent is a time of preparation for the celebration of Christ’s birth, and it invites us to pause and reflect amidst the busyness of life.
Let’s embrace this season by showing kindness, offering support, and taking moments to express gratitude for the blessings of our community. Together, let’s finish the year strong, with a spirit of unity and faith.
Thank you for being part of this incredible journey in 2024. We look forward to celebrating these special moments with you in the days ahead.

Celebrating Student Growth and Achievement at Our End-of-Year Awards
As we approach the end of the school year, we take time to honour and celebrate the growth, achievements, and efforts of our students through our End-of-Year School Awards. These awards recognise students who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, growth, and contribution to our school community in 2024.
Year 6 Graduation Awards
The prestigious Year 6 Graduation Awards will be presented during the End-of-Year Liturgy on December 17th. These awards highlight the outstanding achievements and contributions of our graduating students. Selections are being carefully made by a dedicated staff panel consisting of Kylie Cane, Karen Sanderson, Amanda Barone, Jo Ryan, and Gavin Holmes.
Whole School Grade Awards
The Grade Awards, celebrating the exceptional efforts of students across all year levels, will be given out at the End-of-Year Assembly on December 18th. Each grade team is thoughtfully organising these awards to reflect the unique strengths and endeavours of their students throughout the year.
A Surprise Celebration
To add to the excitement of these special occasions, all awards will remain a surprise, with parents and students finding out on the day of the presentations. This ensures a joyful and heartfelt moment for everyone involved.
We look forward to sharing these memorable celebrations with you as we recognise and applaud the hard work, resilience, and growth of our students in 2024. Thank you for supporting them in their journey!
Thank You for Supporting Our 2024 Learning Conferences
As we wrap up another successful year, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to all parents, staff, and students for their support and participation in our 2024 Learning Conferences. These conversations are a vital part of our school’s commitment to fostering strong partnerships between home and school, celebrating student achievements, and identifying areas for growth.
The open dialogue during these conferences has provided invaluable insights into each student’s learning journey. Parents' involvement has played a significant role in shaping the meaningful connections that support our students’ development both academically and personally.
Looking Ahead to 2025
In 2025, we will be making some adjustments to how we report and communicate student progress:
- Two Learning Conferences will be scheduled—one in Term 1 and another in Term 3. These will allow us to have timely and purposeful discussions about student goals and progress.
- In Terms 2 and 4, we will replace the face-to-face conferences with written comments provided as part of the school reports. These comments will offer detailed reflections on each student’s achievements and areas for improvement, ensuring parents remain well-informed about their child’s progress.
We believe these changes will continue to strengthen the partnership between families and the school, providing clear, regular updates on student growth while maintaining a balanced approach to communication.
Thank you once again for your ongoing support and collaboration in making 2024 a successful year of learning and growth. We look forward to continuing this important journey with you in 2025!

Term 4 Camps
Our 2024 camp program has successfully concluded, with Year 3 and Year 5 students recently enjoying their exciting camping experiences. These camps provided incredible opportunities for learning, growth, and connection outside the classroom.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the staff, parents, and volunteers who contributed to the success of these camps. Your dedication and assistance made these experiences possible.
Congratulations to our students for their outstanding behaviour, bravery, and kindness, which truly shone throughout the camps. They embraced challenges, supported one another, and created memories that will last a lifetime. Well done!

Kindergarten 2025
Our 2025 Kindergarten students have visited St James for a 3rd time as part of our transition program, and it's wonderful to see their growth and peer-to-peer & teacher-to-student relationship already blossoming. They will come to school for a final visit on our step up day on December 3rd.

Parent Community Group
Thank you to the families who took the time to complete the Parent Community Group survey—we received 13 responses, and your feedback is greatly appreciated.
The survey results indicate that a 7:00 PM evening meeting time works best for most families. Respondents also valued the advance notice of meetings, including the agenda, which is shared in the newsletter.
We understand that the busyness of life can make attendance challenging, and we appreciate the suggestions offered for discussion topics. Notably, a majority of respondents expressed a preference for fundraising activities over a levy to support the school.
This valuable feedback will help us shape the 2025 Parent Community Group, which will include the return of the formal Grade Parent Representative role for each grade—a step toward strengthening our community connections.
Thank you again for your input as we plan for a productive and collaborative year ahead!
Celebrating Our Amazing School Staff!
At St James Primary, we are truly fortunate to have an exceptional team of educators and support staff who dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to the growth and well-being of our students. Their unwavering commitment to excellence creates an environment where each child can flourish, explore their potential, and experience the fullness of life.
Our teachers bring passion and creativity to the classroom, making learning engaging and meaningful. Their ability to inspire curiosity and foster a love for knowledge is at the heart of our school’s success. Whether guiding students through challenging concepts or celebrating their achievements, our teachers make every moment count.
Equally essential are our incredible support staff. From ensuring our school operates smoothly to providing care and encouragement, their contributions often happen behind the scenes but are deeply felt by everyone in our community. Their kindness and dedication create a nurturing space where every student feels valued and supported.
Together, our staff embody the values we hold dear, working tirelessly to build a school where each student is empowered to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Of note in 2024 is Mrs. Megan Robinson's achievement; Megan successfully gained Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, recognising educators who meet the highest professional standards. HALT-certified teachers demonstrate advanced skills in teaching, planning, and leadership, with a strong focus on improving student outcomes. Achieving this accreditation involves rigorous assessment, reflection, and peer review to ensure excellence. For students, this means access to exceptional teaching practices, personalised support, and educators who are committed to continuous learning and mentoring others. HALT accreditation reflects our dedication to providing the best possible education for every child in our care. In 2025 several teachers will continue journeying towards this higher accreditation. On behalf of the St James community, we congratulate Megan on this achievement.
Please join us in expressing our gratitude to these extraordinary individuals who make St James Primary a place of joy, growth, and possibility!

School Improvement Goals: Fortnightly Update
Short Term Goals
Our short-term goal is, "We will celebrate the season of Advent by preparing our hearts and minds for the coming of Christ. Through prayer, acts of kindness, and reflection on the themes of hope, peace, joy, and love, we will deepen our faith and share the spirit of Advent with others."
Long Term Goals
As we conclude another remarkable year, we take a moment to celebrate the strides we have made toward our school goals:
Building closer connections with Jesus Christ: This year, we have deepened our faith through prayer, liturgies, and acts of service. Together, we have grown as a faith-filled community, striving to reflect Christ’s love in our daily lives and actions.
Enhancing the learning and growth of our students: Across every classroom, we have witnessed students embracing challenges, developing new skills, and celebrating their achievements. Through a commitment to excellence and perseverance, our students have flourished academically, socially, and spiritually.
Building effective partnerships between school and home: Strong collaboration between families and staff has been the foundation of our success. From learning conferences to community events, these partnerships have created a shared vision for the well-being and success of every child.

To conclude
This will be the final formal newsletter of the school year, so as the 2024 school year comes to a close, we bid a heartfelt farewell to our Year 6 students, who are about to embark on the next chapter of their educational journey—high school.
This moment is both a celebration of their achievements and a time to reflect on the incredible growth they have shown throughout their primary school years. From their first steps into the classroom to becoming leaders of our school, they have demonstrated resilience, kindness, and a spirit of collaboration that has enriched our community.
To our Year 6 students: as you move forward into high school and beyond, remember that you carry with you not only the skills and knowledge you have gained but also the values instilled in you by your family, teachers, and friends. Trust in your abilities, remain curious, and approach life with courage and compassion.
We send them forth with God’s blessings and prayers for your future. May you walk confidently in faith, guided by His light:
Loving God,
We thank You for the gift of these students, for their unique talents, and for the joy they have brought to our school.
As they step into high school, we ask that You bless them with wisdom, strength, and a sense of purpose.
May they be a light to others, living in faith and kindness, and always trusting in Your plan for their lives.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Year 6, you will always be part of our school family, and we will hold you in our prayers as you embrace the adventures and opportunities ahead. Go with courage, go with kindness, and go with God.
Congratulations and blessings always!
Nic.

Roadworks - Leisure Drive, Greenway Drive and Darlington Drive intersection upgrade.
Upcoming roadworks as part of the Leisure Drive, Greenway Drive and Darlington Drive intersection upgrade.
Stage 2 of the project will begin on Wednesday 4 December 2024, at Site 3, east of the roundabout along Leisure Drive. The works are expected to take about 2 months to complete.
This stage will be carried out during the 2024/2025 Christmas school holidays of 2024/2025, ensuring that the majority of works are completed with minimal disruption to school activities.
Stage 2 includes the installation of a signalised pedestrian crossing and lane widening to improve safety and ease of travel through this area.
Working hours: Council crews will work Monday to Friday, between 7 am and 5 pm, with some Saturday work from 7 am to 1 pm. Linemarking will take place at night towards the end of the project.
- Traffic management: Two-way traffic will be maintained, although lanes will be narrower, and the speed limit will be reduced to 40 km/h. Traffic controllers will be on site to guide traffic flow during work hours. We will provide traffic impact updates on our website at tweed.nsw.gov.au/roadworks.
- Bus stop relocation: The bus stop west of Advocate Place will be temporarily moved about 100 meters east, just past Advocate Place (see map in the attached planned works notification).
- Tree removal and replacement: Some trees within the work zone will need to be removed for road widening, drainage improvements and footpath installation. Efforts will be made to save trees where possible, but some may need to be replaced due to impacted root systems.
- Pedestrian access: Pedestrians will be directed around the work site (see map in the attached planned works notification).
- Limited access to some properties: Limited access to some properties and driveways within the work zone during work hours. Please ask the traffic controller for help if you need access.
Tweed Shire Council will keep us informed with further updates and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. You can also leave a comment or ask a question about this project at yoursaytweed.com.au/banora-point-intersection.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to improve the safety and accessibility of this area.

School Travel Passes
Applications are now open for 2025 School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) travel.
Students in the Opal network applying for an Opal card (including a Term Bus Pass) for the first time will receive their School Opal card at their nominated postal address from mid-January 2025.
Students who require a School Opal card or travel pass but have not yet applied need to apply or update their details as soon as possible.
In the Opal network, students should travel with a Child/Youth Opal card until they receive their valid School Opal card. If outside Greater Sydney, parents should contact their local bus operator to discuss their travel needs.
Students living in rural and regional areas will receive their travel pass from their nominated transport operator. It may be issued via their school or be sent directly to them at home. Note: some rural and regional operators do not issue travel passes. Students/parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.
Terms of Use
Students using School Opal cards must tap on and tap off in line with the Opal terms of use.
This includes travel within the approved times between 6.30am and 7.00pm from Monday to Friday on school days only. Students must use their Child/Youth Opal card for any travel outside these times.
All students are required to comply with the Student code of conduct. The code of conduct aims to ensure the safety and well-being of school children and other passengers. It is important that parents ensure their child is aware of this, as failure to comply with the code of conduct can result in a suspension from travel.
